Bob turned toward the window just as the plane touched off. A small wave of comfort came over him as he felt the sleeping pills taking a hold of him. He was looking forward to completely forgetting all about the ordeal with Sara. Within a few minutes, he was fast asleep above the clouds. Bob woke just as the passengers were getting up from their seats and exiting the plane. Sara was nowhere to be seen and this made Bob happy. He really didnt want to see her ever again. Bob was still shaking the sleep out of his eyes as he walked back out through the umbilical cord. Slowly, he became aware of the smiles of people who walked past him. The smiles seemed strange but he assumed that they were meant for other people. They were always meant for other people. As he stood waiting for his luggage, Bob noticed more people smiling and several people pointing at him and laughing. It wasnt the laughing he was used to, though. It wasnt the laughter of children trying to make another child feel bad; it was mirthful, innocent, joyful laughter. For the first time in his life, it seemed like the people were laughing with him rather than at him. Bob had no idea what they were laughing with him about. Bobs confusion rose as a good-looking woman came up to him and introduced herself completely out of the blue. Hi, she said, Im Carol. Bob had no idea what to think. At this point he was nervous and extremely confused. He asked her, straight out, Why did you just introduce yourself to me? She replied with a twinkle in her eye, Because I used to be married to a total jerk and it seems like men are always such jerks. Youre different. You look like a guy I should really get to know. Bob was confounded. Here was another pretty woman talking to him. He began scratching the back of his hand again and looked down at it to find a unique message. In permanent blue ink was written, Sorry to mislead you - look in the mirror - a gift from Sara. Bob told Carol not to move and apologized but said that he had to go to the bathroom urgently. He rushed to the mens room and planted himself in front of a mirror. The reflection caught him completely off guard. He had no idea whether to be enraged or overjoyed. Bob knew one thing, though. He would never be able to forget Sara.On Bobs forehead and down his cheeks was written, in permanent blue ink,
