This
comic is included in The Best of
Transparent Life largely because it represents a large portion of my
work: a series of short (2 or 3 pages) photo-comics made up of very small
panels with a single character looking straight at the camera and talking
directly to the reader. I’ve always
referred to these as my “Monologue Comics” and they express my interest at
the time of more obviously and directly delivering some of my views on a
variety of subjects to the reader. It
started with “Meaning” starring Bryan Quinn (Frank) and ended with “Cell
Out!” starring Hannah Schmiege (Gretchen), though
Ben Parman (Marv) also has one in the Chapter 1 of 1000 Miles. Nearly every major character got one
eventually (including Ruth, Mary, Molly, Kevin, Tom, Julie, Hannah, and two
for Frank) though Jasper is conspicuously absent. After awhile, though, I got a little sick
of the format, and I don’t intend to do anymore. At least not for quite awhile. |
