Shortly before this comic, Warren (Jasper) had ordered himself a kilt off the internet somewhere and was justifiably very proud of it. I have to admit, I liked the look myself and thought about getting one too, but... it wasn't really me. Plus I didn't have any money. Anyway, Warren was wearing his kilt and getting weird looks at our rather conservative college and I just thought of the punch line from the end of the story. So the first few pages are basically filler to get to that punch line. But they're good filler I think.

   Like a couple of the other Transparent Life characters (most notably Frank and Marvin), the character of Jasper is basically a caricature of the actor portraying him. Warren actually had the dyed mohawk and everything at the time and dressed roughly like we see here on a daily basis.
