“Good Night, Holly” was my first attempt at a 24-Hour Comic, an idea that Scott McCloud (author of Understanding Comics, among other things) came up with some fifteen years ago. The concept is that the artist creates an entire 24 page comic from beginning to end within 24 consecutive hours. It’s supposed to make the comics more spontaneous and fresh and give the artist a new perspective on their work. Well, I had barely started making comics when I made my first of four-ish attempts (“Important” and “Testimony” were both full 24-hour comics although I changed “Important” later on; “Goldilocks” was a 12-hour comic).

I started writing the comic at about noon on a Saturday in April. It took me a long time to come up with an idea of any kind and I went to a concert in the afternoon featuring some of my music major friends (I didn’t find out about it until the last minute, but I was doing the comic, so I brought a notepad with to the concert and worked out some ideas).
