Aw, “Dressed to Fail.”  Another stone-cold classic from the Transparent Life library.  This whole comic owes an enormous debt to Bryan Quinn (Frank) because it’s based on a joke/life style choice of his that is still going on to this day.

Bryan is a fascinating human being for a wide variety of reasons.  For the purposes of this commentary, I’ll limit my ruminations to his wardrobe.  Bryan has long been known for his style.  And by style I mean that for the first several years I knew him he wore almost nothing but full suits with shirt and tie and hat.  For this reason, he was frequently mistaken for a professor at our college, which was good fun.  I think the idea behind it was basically to raise the standards of clothing today.  I mean, only 60 years ago it was almost unthinkable for the average man to leave the house without shirt, tie, and hat (unless he was a laborer of some sort; but even then he dressed up on Sunday for church).  Now you can find people wearing sweatpants to weddings and t-shirts and baseball caps to funerals.  It’s really quite disgusting in my opinion, and certainly in Bryan’s.  Bryan worked hard to become a true gentleman.  He took off his hat in doors.  He stood up when a woman came to the table in the cafeteria until she sat down.  He walked on the outside of ladies on the street.  You know, the little things that nowadays can pretty much only be found in Victorian novels.
