I liked comics as a kid and even started my own comic book company when I was in Middle School. I ran the company and tried to get my friends all involved but I was pretty much the only one who actually did anything (namely 8 issues of an obvious Dick Tracy rip-off called Chuck Chacy). Then in high school, I (like so many others) decided comics were for kids and I should give them up. Which I did.

Then as a sophomore in college I saw the movie version of Ghost World, which made me want to read the comic it was based on, which got me back into comics. This culminated in me doing an independent study in comics the 2nd semester of my junior year of college (spring 2004). I had never seen a photo-comic before so I thought it would be interesting and unique to make my own. The first one I did was "Circles."

The name Transparent Life came about a little later... I wanted a name that evoked my then strong disenchantment with society in general. Mostly I wanted to call it Daydream Nation, but I wasn't going to rip off Sonic Youth. So I came up with Transparent Life. I felt like it sounded similar and it seemed to evoke what I wanted.
